STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF REINFORCED CONCRETE ELLIPTICAL SEWER AND CULVERT PIPE
THE PURPOSES OF THIS PAPER ARE /A/ TO DEMONSTRATE THE METHOD OF DETERMINING EARTH LOAD ON ELLIPTICAL PIPE AND /B/ TO DEMONSTRATE THE METHOD OF DERIVING LOAD FACTORS FOR ELLIPTICAL PIPE. BOTH VERTICAL ELLIPTICAL AND HORIZONTAL ELLIPTICAL PIPES ARE CONSIDERED. THE LOAD FACTOR CONCEPT IS EXPLAINED AND LOAD FACTORS FOR ELLIPTICAL PIPE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL, AS AFFECTED BY BEDDING, TRENCH LOADS, LIVE LOADS, EMBANKMENT LOADS AND CRADLE LOADS. FACTORS OF SAFETY ARE DISCUSSED IN SOME DETAIL, AND EXAMPLES OF THE SEVERAL LOADING AND BEDDING COMBINATIONS ARE PRESENTED. /AUTHOR/
