VENTILATION OF THE ROAD TUNNELS ON NAPLES URBAN MOTORWAY
A VENTILATION SYSTEM KNOWN AS " LONGITUDINAL BY INDUCTION" SYSTEM WAS CHOSEN FOR THE VENTILATION OF THE TWO AND A QUARTER MILE TUNNEL SECTION OF THE TANGENZIALE SIX-LANE MOTORWAY IN NAPLES. THE BASIS OF THIS METHOD IS TO USE THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF TUNNEL AS AN AIR-DUCT WITH UNI-DIRECTIONAL AIR-FLOW PROVIDED BY A SERIES OF AXIAL FLOW FANS SUSPENDED FROM THE TUNNEL ROOF. THE REASON FOR USING THIS METHOD OF VENTILATION AND THE FAN SPECIFICATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. /TRRL/
