SELECTION OF ENGINE ROOM PLANT IN TANKERS AND BULK CARRIERS
The feasibility of steam turbine, slow speed diesel and geared medium speed diesel propulsion systems for large vessels is evaluated for installations using a single screw, twin screws, a nozzle single screw, and contrarotating propellers. Options for supplying auxiliary power are considered. A comparison of specific transportation costs for a 230,000 dwt tanker with different types of engine arrangements is given.
