EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF A NEW TYPE OF SUSPENSION BRIDGE /IN PORTUGUESE/
THE ROAD BRIDGE OVER THE ZAMBEZI IN TETE WAS TESTED AT THE "LABORATORIO DE ENGENHARIA DE MOCAMGIQUE". THE STUDIED STRUCTURE HAS TWO PRESTRESSED CABLES INSTEAD OF THE STIFFENING GIRDERS USUAL IN CONVENTIONAL SUSPENSION BRIDGES. THESE CABLES, TOGETHER WITH A SERIES OF OBLIQUE SUSPENSION AND FUNICULAR CABLES, FORM A TRUSS IN TENSION. THIS STRUCTURE WAS TESTED ON A 1:50 SCALE MODEL; A STUDY WAS MADE OF THE INFLUENCE OF DEFLECTIONS IN SEVERAL CROSS SECTIONS OF THE DECK, STRESSES IN DIFFERENT CABLES, AND DISPLACEMENTS IN THE BRIDGGE AND SINGLE TOWERS. /LNEC/TRRL/
