CALCULATION OF THE SURFACING OF A METAL BRIDGE DECK /IN RUSSIAN/
VARIOUS DIFFICULTIES ARISE DURING THE CALCULATION OF THE ASPHALTIC CONCRETE SURFACING OF ORTHOTROPIC SLAB METAL DECKS. THE SURFACING IS SUBJECTED TO VARIOUS STRESSES CAUSED BY DIFFERENCES IN THERMAL EXPANSION, VIBRATIONS, ETC. IT IS IMPORTANT TO AVOID CRACKING WHICH CAN LEAD TO METAL CORROSION, HENCE THE NEED FOR AT LEAST AN APPROXIMATE CALCULATION METHOD. BASED ON THE STUDY OF A HETEROGENEOUS BEAM, A FORMULA IS PRESENTED WHICH GIVES THERMAL STRESSES IN ASPHALTIC CONCRETE AS A FUNCTION OF THE DIMENSION OF THE LAYERS, AND THE MATERIALS (MODULI, COEFFICIENT OF EXPANSION). THE CONCRETE MUST HAVE SUFFICIENT DEFORMABILITY AND THICKNESS FOR PROTECTING THE DECK (A MINIMUM OF 30 MM). /TRRL/
