USE OF THE PCA ROADMETER FOR MEASURING ROAD ROUGHNESS, WITH DISCUSSIONS AND CLOSURE
AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE VARIOUS FACTORS LIKELY TO INFLUENCE MASUREMENTS TAKEN BY THE PORTLAND CEMENT ASSOCIATION ROADMETER WAS UNDERTAKEN BY THE AUSTRALIAN ROAD RESEARCH BOARD. SPEED, WHEELPATH, AND ZERO- POSITIONING WERE FOUND TO BE MOST LIKELY TO CAUSE VARIATION. POSSIBLE MODIFICATIONS TO THE INSTRUMENT FOR USE IN ROUTINE ROUGHNESS SURVEYS ARE DETAILED. SOME OF THE POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS OF THE VALUES IN PROGRAMMING AND PERFORMANCE STUDIES ARE DISCUSSED.
