SERVICEABILITY PERFORMANCE OF BOMBAY-POONA ROAD WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE EFFECT OF SURFACE CRACKS
IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH SERVICEABILITY CRITERIA UNDER INDIAN CONDITIONS, A MILE BY MILE STUDY OF SOIL, CLIMATIC, AND TRAFFIC CONDITIONS WAS COMBINED WITH QUANTITATIVE RATINGS OBTAINED BY A ROUGHOMETER. THE PERFORMANCE OF VARIOUS RIGID AND FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS AND OVERLAYS WAS ANALYZED ON THE BASIS OF THE ROUGHNESS INDEX AND CRACKING PATTERN; INFLUENCE OF LONGITUDINAL WAVINESS WAS NOT TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. THE NEED FOR A PARAMETER REPRESENTING PASSENGER DISCOMFORT IS EMPHASIZED. /TRRL/A/
