FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT DESIGN 2. A NEW MOTORWAY PAVEMENT WITH A MIXED GRANULAR ROAD BASE CONTAINING BLAST FURNACE SLAG
THE PAVEMENT STRUCTURE ADOPTED IN RECENT YEARS FOR 1R1 MOTORWAYS IS AS FOLLOWS, 20 CM OF GRANULAR MIXTURE, 20 CM OF CEMENT MIXTURE, 15 CM OF BITUMINOUS BASE MIXTURE, 6 CM OF BINDER COURSE AND 3 CM OF WEARING COURSE, IN AN OVERALL THICKNESS 64 CM. THE NEW PAVEMENT STRUCTURE, TO BE USED WHERE THE SUBGRADE IS OF GOOD BEARING CAPACITY, HAS A TOTAL THICKNESS OF 51 CM COMPRISED OF 35 CM OF GRANULAR MIXTURE CONTAINING BLAST FURNACE SLAG, 10 CM OF BITUMINOUS BASE, AND 6 CM OF OPEN-TEXTURED BITUMINOUS WEARING COURSE TABLES AND GRAPHS GIVE THE RESULTS OF DEFLECTION AND DEFORMATION MEASUREMENT CARRIED OUT ON A TEST SECTION OF THE NEW PAVEMENT, WHICH SHOWED A PERFORMANCE EQUAL TO THAT OF THE CONVENTIONAL STRUCTURE. /TRRL/
