DESIGN OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS, 1A PROPOSAL FOR THE DEFINITION OF CERTAIN DESIGN FACTORS

THIS ARTICLE DEFINES THE EFFECTS OF REPEATED LOADS ON THE VARIOUS LAYERS OF A FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT STRUCTURE, AND DESCRIBES THE MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF THE ROAD MATERIALS UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. IT IS POINTED OUT THAT DESIGN CALCULATIONS BASED UPON THE THEORY OF ELASTICITY WHERE THE PAVEMENT IS CONSIDERED AS A MULTILAYERED ELASTIC BODY, SHOULD NOT IGNORE THE BEHAVIOR OF THE INDIVIDUAL MATERIALS COMPRISING THE PAVEMENT STRUCTURE. /IRRD/
