THE RESPONSE OF PAVEMENT MATERIALS TO DYNAMIC AND REPETITIVE LOADINGS: A REVIEW
THE EFFECTS OF SUCH FACTORS AS DRY DENSITY AND MOISTURE CONTENT ON THE RESPONSE OF SOILS TO REPETITIVE LOADING ARE EVALUATED. IT IS DEMONSTRATED THAT, UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, IT IS POSSIBLE TO OPTIMISE THE SOIL RESPONSE BY CHOOSING SUITABLE LEVELS OF THE DENSITY AND DEGREE OF SATURATION. THE DEVELOPMENT OF BOTH LINEAR AND NON-LINEAR STRESS-STRAIN MODELS IS THEN DISCUSSED AND THE UTILITY OF THE VARIOUS MODELS IS CRITICALLY ASSESSED. THE PAPER INCLUDES TABULATED VALUES OF SEVERAL STRESS-STRAIN PARAMETERS FOR A VARIETY OF SOIL TYPES AND CONDITIONS. /AUTHOR/
