ROAD MATERIALS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS
THE STATE OF THE ART OF THE SELECTION OF MATERIALS AND THE DESIGNS FOR FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS IN AUSTRALIA IS REVIEWED. THE USE OF VARIOUS NATURAL, MANUFACTURED, ARTIFICIAL OR WASTE, AND MODIFIED MATERIALS IS DISCUSSED. FOAMED BITUMEN IS BEING USED FOR PRODUCING SURFACE COURSE MIXES. THE STRENGTH OF BITUMINOUS PLANT MIXES MAY BE MAXIMIZED BY USING A LOW PENETRATION GRADE OF BITUMEN, USING AS LARGE A MAXIMUM PARTICLE SIZE AS POSSIBLE, AND PLACING IN DEEP LAYERS TO ACHIVE MAXIMUM POSSIBLE COMPACTION. /AUTHOR/
