JOINT-FREE EXPERIMENTAL PRESTRESSED PAVEMENT
SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF AN EXPERIMENTAL 1150 FT. LONG (350M) PAVEMENT SLAB PRESTRESSED BETWEEN ABUTMENTS IS REPORTED ON. CONCRETE WITH A LOW COEFFICIENT OF THERMAL EXPANSION (ABOUT HALF THAT OF CONVENTIONAL MIXES) WAS USED TO LIMIT STRESS VARIATIONS DUE TO TEMPERATURE CHANGE. PRESTRESS LOSSES WERE MINIMIZED BY EARLY STRESSING TO ELIMINATE CREEP, AND A SLIDING LAYER WAS PROVIDED TO REDUCE FRICTION BETWEEN SLAB AND SUBGRADE. /AUTHOR/
