THEORY OF STOCHASTIC MODELING OF WATERSHED SYSTEMS
A THEORY OF STOCHASTIC MODELING OF WATERSHED SYSTEMS IS PROPOSED IN WHICH HYDROLOGIC PHENOMENA ARE EXPRESSED AS STOCHASTIC HYDROLOGIC SYSTEMS. THE PROPOSED STOCHASTIC HYDROLOGIC MODEL IS BASED ON A MATHEMATICAL FORMULATION OF THE PRINCIPLE OF SYSTEM CONTINUITY, COMPOSED OF COMPONENT STOCHASTIC PROCESSES OF PRECIPITATION, RUNOFF, EVAPOTRANSPIRATION, PLUS LOSSES AND BASIN STORAGE. BASED ON VARIOUS ASSUMPTIONS, AN ANNUAL STORM-FLOOD MODEL IS USED TO SIMULATE THE HYDROLOGIC SYSTEM OF A WATERSHED. IN THIS MODEL THE INPUT HOURLY RAINFALL OF THE ANNUAL STORM IS REPRESENTED BY A FIRST-ORDER NONSTATIONARY MARKOV CHAIN AND THE ANNUAL STORM-FLOOD BY MULTIPLE LINEAR REGRESSION. THE RAINFALL AND RUNOFF RELATIONSHIP OF THE WATERSHED IS REPRESENTED BY A BIVARIATE MARKOV PROCESS. /AUTHOR/
