ROADSIDE SAFETY
THIS REPORT OF PROPOSALS THAT HAVE BEEN ADVANCED FOR PROVIDING A SAFER FIXED FACILITY, FOCUSES ATTENTION ON THE FATE OF ERRANT VEHCILES AFTER THEY HAVE ACCIDENTLY LEFT THE TRAVELED WAY. THE RESULTS OF A STUDY OF FATAL ACCIDENTS ON THE INTERSTATE SYSTEM ARE SUMMARIZED IN TABLES. THE CONSEQUENCES OF LEAVING THE TRAVELED WAY ARE CATEGORIZED AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS AND PRIORITIES ARE LISTED. MULTIPLE DESIGN OBJECTIVES ARE OUTLINED AND ASPECTS OF REDUCING COLLISION WITH FIXED OBJECTS ARE REVIEWED. PRIORITY LOCATIONS WHICH NEED SPECIAL ATTENTION AND ROADSIDE DESIGN ARE LISTED.
