PEFORMANCE TESTS WITH A NEW STRUCTURAL DESIGN FOR BRIDGES WITH GREAT SPAN

THIS WORK AIMS TO VERIFY EXPERIMENTALLY THE PERFORMANCE OF THE STRUCTURAL DESIGN IN "GIRDERS WITH SUSPENSION EFFECT" DEVELOPED BY ENG. ANTONIO ALVES DE NORONHA FILHO. INITIALLY THE PRINCIPLE OF PERFORMANCE AND THE METHOD OF ANALYTIC COMPUTING OF THE STRUCTURE, WHICH IS AN ASSOCIATION OF THE SUSPENSION BRIDGE WITH THE REINFORCED CONCRETE BRIDGE, WAS STUDIED. LOADING TESTS ON A SCALE MODEL OF A "GIRDER WITH SUSPENSION EFFECT" WITH A 5M SPAN WERE PERFORMED. THE TESTING RESULTS ARE PRESENTED IN TABLES AND GRAPHICAL ANALYSIS, AND BRIEFLY DISCUSSED. TESTING RESULTS ARE COMPARED WITH THE VALUES OBTAINED ANALYTICALLY. THE MODEL TESTS MADE TO RUPTURE, GAVE VALUABLE DATA ABOUT THE STRUCTURE PERFORMANCE, ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE INFLUENCE OF THE SECOND ORDER EFFECT. THE RESULTS OBTAINED DO NOT ALLOW YET FOR A DEFINITE CONCLUSION ABOUT THE FUNCTIONAL AND ECONOMICAL PRACTICALITY OF THE STRUCTURAL DESIGN UNDER CONSIDERATION.
