CRACK SPACING AND CRACK WIDTHS DUE TO NORMAL FORCE OR BENDING MOMENT
THE INVESTIGATION DEALS WITH STABLE CRACKS IN REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES SUBJECTED TO TENSION AND BENDING MOMENT. THE EFFECT OF SHEAR FORCE IS TOUCHED ON BRIEFLY IN CONNECTION WITH CRACK WIDTH. NO ORIGINAL WORK WAS CARRIED OUT ON THE CRACK-PROMOTING EFFECT OF CROSSING REINFORCEMENT OR ON THE SHAPE OF THE CRACKS. THE OBSERVATIONS RELATE TO CRACKS ON THE CONCRETE SURFACE DIRECTLY OVER A REINFORCING BAR. ALL LIKELY TYPES OF STEEL ARE DEALT WITH IN REGARD TO THE AGE OF THE STRUCTURE AND ITS LOADING HISTORY AND TO THE STRESS IN THE STEEL. /AUTHOR/
