ANALYTICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES OF CASTELLATED BEAMS
LINEAR STRESS CONDITIONS IN CASTELLATED BEAMS ARE DESCRIBED, AND DESIGN METHODS IN CURRENT USE ARE EVALUATED. THE MAJOR EMPHASIS IS ON GENERAL FLEXURAL AND SHEAR STRUCTURAL STRESS CONDITIONS. A MAJOR OBJECTIVE WAS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MORE EXACT METHOD UTILIZING THE THEORY OF ELASTICITY FOR THE BASIC EXPRESSIONS. IT WAS ANTICIPATED THAT THE THEORY OF ELASTICITY METHOD OF ANALYSIS WOULD BE QUITE COMPLEX AND THAT THE USE OF THIS METHOD FOR DESIGN OFFICE PURPOSES WOULD NOT BE PRACTICAL. THE THEORY OF ELASTICITY ANALYSIS AND THE RESULTS OF THE FULL SCALE TESTS WERE USED FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ACCURATE SIMPLIFIED THEORY FOR EVALUATING THE ADEQUACY OF CASTELLATED BEAMS. /AUTHOR/
