TORSION AND SHEAR TESTS ON PRESTRESSED BOX GIRDERS, 1963-64
DESTRUCTIVE TESTS ON TWO MODEL SINGLE-CELL PRESTRESSED BOX GIRDERS WITH CANTILEVERED TOP SLABS ARE DESCRIBED. THE GIRDERS WERE PRESTRESSED ON THE 'MONIERBAU' SYSTEM AND REINFORCED WITH STIRRUP AND MESH REINFORCEMENT. THREE CROSS-WEB DIAPHRAGMS WERE BUILT INTO THE GIRDERS IN ORDER TO DISTRIBUTE THE LOADS OVER THE GIRDER CROSS-SECTION. ONE GIRDER WAS CENTRALLY LOADED ALMOST TO FLEXURAL FAILURE, THEN ECCENTRICALLY LOADED UNTIL TORSIONAL FAILURE OCCURRED; THE OTHER WAS TESTED TO TORSIONAL FAILURE WITH A GREATER ECCENTRICITY OF LOADING.
