EFFECTS OF DIFFERENTIAL TEMPERATURE ON CONTINUOUS PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGES

DIFFERENTIAL TEMPERATURE VARIATIONS ACROSS A CONCRETE BOX SECTION, CAUSED BY THE TOP SLAB HEATING UP FASTER THAN THE SOFFIT, MAY INDUCE UNDESIRABLE STRESSES AND DEFLECTIONS, PARTICULARLY DURING CONSTRUCTION, IN CONTINUOUS PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGES. AN EQUIVALENT LINEAR TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION IS USED TO CALCULATE THE STRESSES AND DEFLECTIONS PRODUCED, THEIR MAGNITUDE BEING DEPENDENT UPON THE TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE, THE COEFFICIENT OF LINEAR EXPANSION, THE DEPTH OF THE CROSS SECTION AND THE DEGREE OF INDETERMINANCY OF THE STRUCTURE. /RRL(A)/
