WELL FOUNDATIONS FOR CONCRETE BRIDGES
RESULTS OF TESTS CONDUCTED ON MODELS OF WELL FOUNDATION IN SAND SUBJECTED TO CONSTANT VERTICAL AND INCREASING LATERAL LOADS ARE PRESENTED. MOMENT-ROTATION CURVES ARE GIVEN FOR EMBEDMENT RATIOS OF 0 TO 4, AND THE NATURE OF DISTRIBUTION OF PASSIVE EARTH PRESSURE IS GIVEN FOR EMBEDMENT RATIOS OF 2 TO 4. A METHOD IS SUGGESTED FOR DETERMINING MINIMUM DEPTH OF WELL BELOW THE LEVEL OF DEEPEST SCOUR AND DETERMINING THE PERCENTAGE OF EXTERNAL MOMENT THAT IS RESISTED BY LATERAL EARTH PRESSURE. /RRL(A)/
