LONG-TERM FIELD STUDY OF STRESSES IN A POST-TENSIONED CONCRETE GIRDER BRIDGE
SIX TYPICAL, SIMPLE-SPAN, POST-TENSIONED CONCRETE BRIDGE GIRDERS OF THE POWER STRUCTURES INTAKE BRIDGE AT OAHE DAM, PIERRE, SOUTH DAKOTA, WERE INSTRUMENTED FOR STUDY OF PRESTRESS LOSSES. MEASURED AND PREDICTED (DESIGN) PRESTRESS LOSSES AND THE STATE OF PRESTRESS ARE COMPARED AT STRESS TRANSFER AND 4 1/2 YEARS LATER. CREEP AND SHRINKAGE LOSSES AND THE STATE OF PRESTRESS AT 4 1/2 YEARS APPROACHED PREDICTED VALUES. MEASURED FRICTION LOSSES, APPARENTLY CLOSELY RELATED TO ELASTIC SHORTENING, DID NOT COMPARE WITH PREDICTED VALUES. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE STATE OF PRESTRESS IS SATISFACTORY, BUT THE STRESS DISTRIBUTION DOES NOT MATCH THAT ANTICIPATED BY THE WORKING STRESS DESIGN. /RRL/A/
