BERTHING THE VERY LARGE TANKERS
A general description is given for the technique of alongside towing. The detailed procedures are explained for the berthing of a 200,000 ton tanker at Milford Haven and a 312,000 ton tanker at Bantry Bay. Towing equipment is discussed, covering materials and design of ropes, and fittings. A method of calculating tug power in relation to ship size is set forth.
