DEVELOP MORE SIGNIFICANT AND RAPID TEST PROCEDURES FOR QUALITY ASSURANCE PHYSICAL TESTS OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES AND RELATED MATERIALS
THE RESEARCH EFFORT TO DEVELOP RAPID TESTS FOR QUALITY CONTROL OF BITUMINOUS MATERIALS WILL BE DIRECTED TOWARD NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING, PROCEDURES SUITABLE FOR USE IN THE FIELD, AND TESTS THAT ARE OF MAJOR IMPORTANCE TO QUALITY. TWO STUDIES ARE SUGGESTED: (1) ON-SITE EVALUATION OF TWO COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE RAPID METHODS, THE NUCLEAR GAUGE AND BATCH WEIGHT TESTS; (2) VERIFICATION UNDER FIELD CONDITIONS OF SIMPLE TEST METHODS FOR DETERMINING THE ASPHALT CONTENT AND PENETRATION OF ASPHALT RESIDUE IN EMULSIFIED ASPHALTS.
