TESTS RESULTS ON THE STRENGTH AND WATER-TIGHTNESS OF JOINT OF PRECAST REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS
THIS PAPER DISCUSSES RESULTS OF TEST ON THE STRENGTH AND WATER-TIGHTNESS OF JOINTS OF PRECAST REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS WITH A VIEW TO UTILIZING PRECAST REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS FOR HIGHWAY OR RAILWAY STRUCTURES. LOADING TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT ON PRECAST REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS JOINTED BY CAST-IN-SITU CONCRETE, AND PERMEABILITY TESTS WERE CONDUCTED TO INVESTIGATE THE WATER-TIGHTNESS OF PRESTRESSED CONTACT SURFACE JOINTS. RESULTS OF TESTS SHOW THAT THE CAST-IN-SITU CONCRETE JOINT HAS SUFFICIENT STRENGTH TO WITHSTAND BENDING MOMENT AND SHEARING FORCE FOR A SPECIFIED LENGTH OF LAPPED SPLICE OF THE REINFORCING BAR. WATERTIGHTNESS WAS ADEQUATE IN THE CASE OF AN EXPANSIVE CEMENT HAVING GROUT PLACED BETWEEN THE CONTACT SURFACES, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE AS REGARDS WATER-TIGHTNESS OF THE JOINT COULD BE EXPECTED.
