SOME TESTS RESULTS ON STRESS-RIBBON BRIDGE-NO. 9 PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE OF EXPO '70
THIS PAPER SUMMARIZED RESULTS OF TESTS CARRIED OUT ON NO.9 PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE CONSTRUCTED FOR EXPO'70, A STRESS RIBBON SYSTEM USED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN JAPAN. THE PURPOSE OF THE TESTS WAS TO LEARN THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE BRIDGE UNDER STATIC AND DYNAMIC LIVE LOAD. THE TEST RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE STRESS CORD THEORY WAS APPLICABLE FOR CALCULATING LOAD- DEFLECTION AND NATURAL PERIOD OF VIBRATION OF A SUSPENDED SPAN, AND THAT A THIN DECK SLAB (10CM) HAD MORE STIFFNESS THAN PREVIOUSLY ESTIMATED, SO THAT VIBRATION CAUSED BY PEDESTRIANS WAS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE OF ANY CONCERN COMPARED TO OTHER TYPES OF PEDESTRIAN BRIDGES.
