MODEL TEST AND STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS ON PILZ DECK-PART 2
PILZ STRUCTURE IS A TYPE OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE FAT SLAB STRUCTURE WHICH IS SUITABLE FOR AN ELEVATED HIGHWAY STRUCTURE. THIS TYPE OF HIGHWAY BRIDGE HAS BEEN DEVELOPED MAINLY IN WEST GERMANY FOR ITS ECONOMICAL MERIT IN URBAN AREAS. IT HAS NOW BEEN ADOPTED IN OTHER PLACES IN EUROPE. IN PILZ STRUCTURE, A DECK SLAB WITH VARIABLE DEPTH IS SUPPORTED BY A COLUMN AND A SUSPENDED SLAB IS SIMPLY SUPPORTED AT THE EDGE OF EACH PILZ DECK. THEREFORE, IN THE DESIGN OF PILZ DECK, STRESSES MUST BE CALCULATED AS FOR A PLATE WITH VARIABLE DEPTH, BUT USUALLY ARE CALCULATED ASSUMING A SIMPLIFIED BOUNDARY CONDITIONS. IN THIS STUDY A TEST USING AN I/25 ACRYLATE RESIN MODEL WAS PERFORMED, AND STRESSES CAUSED BY VERTICAL LOAD AND PRESTRESS WERE MEASURED BY MEANS OF AN ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE FOIL STRAIN GAUGE. SIMULTANEOUSLY CALCULATIONS OF STRESSES WERE CARRIED OUT ACCORDING TO THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD. COMPARING CALCULATED AND MEASERED STRESSES IN THE MODEL TEST IT WAS SHOWN THAT THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD COULD BE USED IN PRACTICE NOT ONLY FOR THE ANALYSIS OF STRESSES DUE TO A VERTICAL LOAD BUT ALSO FOR THE ANALYSIS OF PRESTRESS.
