CURVED BOX GIRDER BRIDGES WITH INTERMEDIATE DIAPHRAGMS AND SUPPORTS

THE STATIC BEHAVIOR OF SIMPLY SUPPORTED CURVED BOX GIRDER BRIDGES WITH OR WITHOUT INTERMEDIATE DIAPHRAGMS SUGJECTED TO CONCENTRATED JOINT LOADS IS INVESTIGATED. THE ANALYTICAL MODEL CONSISTS OF A DOUBLE CELL BOX SECTION WITH HORIZONTAL ANNULAR SEGMENTAL DECK PLATES AND VERTICAL CYLINDRICAL SHELL WEBS. THE SOLUTIONS DUE TO UNIT ANTISYMMETRICAL VERTICAL AND RADIAL LOADS APPLIED AT THE JOINTS FOR THE CASE WITHOUT INTERMEDIATE DIAPHRAGMS ARE OBTAINED AND USED AS INFLUENCE COEFFICIENTS TO EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF INTERMEDIATE DIAPHRAGMS UNDER VERTICAL LOADS APPLIED AT THE JOINTS. CONTINUOUS SPANS OVER INTERMEDIATE SUPPORTS ARE TREATED IN A SIMILAR MANNER. NUMERICAL EXAMPLES ARE PRESENTED AND THE INFLUENCE OF INTERMEDIATE DIAPHRAGMS IS DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
