FRICTION LOSSES IN RIGID POST-TENSIONING DUCTS
FRICTION LOSSES OF FLEXIBLE PRESTRESSING STEEL (STRANDS) IN GALVANIZED RIGID DUCTS WERE MEASURED DURING STRESSING OF TEN STRUCTURES WITH FROM TWO TO FIVE SPANS. THE MEASURED LOSSES IN NINE OF THE TEN STRUCTURES WERE EQUAL TO OR LESS THAN THE CALCULATED LOSSES USING FRICTION COEFFICIENTS FOR CURVATURE "U" OF 0.25 AND FOR WOBBLE "K" OF 0.0002; THUS CONFIRMING THE VALIDITY OF THESE CRITERIA FOR FLEXIBLE TENDONS IN GALVANIZED RIGID DUCTS. NON-SIMULTANEOUS STRESSING OF THE TENDON ENDS DID NOT AFFECT THEIR TOTAL ELONGATION. /FHWA/
