A SYSTEMATIC PROCEDURE FOR MINIMUM COST DESIGN OF HIGHWAY BRIDGES, AN INTERIM REPORT
A MATHEMATICAL THEORY IS PRESENTED FOR THE SYSTEMATIC MINIMIZATION OF THE TOTAL COST OF AN N SPAN, SIMPLY SUPPORTED, HIGHWAY BRIDGE STRUCTURE. DYNAMIC PROGRAMMING IS THE METHOD EMPLOYED IN DEVELOPING THE MODEL AND IT IS APPLIED TO THE STRUCTURAL FUNCTIONS AND GEOMETRY, SIMULTANEOUSLY. A COMPUTER PROGRAM IS BEING DEVELOPED TO IMPLEMENT THE OPTIMIZATION METHOD. /FHWA/
