APPLICATION OF STATISTICAL PROCEDURES TO SAMPLING, TESTING AND ACCEPTANCE OF PLANT MIX BITUMINOUS SURFACE COURSES
STATISTICAL PRINCIPLES ARE USED TO PREPARE A BITUMINOUS MIXTURE SPECIFICATION. SEVERAL TYPES OF RANDOM SAMPLING PLANS ARE DESCRIBED WITH THE METHOD OF DETERMINING THE OPTIMUM NUMBER OF SAMPLES TO MEET A GIVEN SET OF CONDITIONS. STATISTICAL MEANS FOR DETERMINING SAMPLE SIZE IS PRESENTED. THE STATISTICAL PERIMETERS UPON WHICH A SPECIFICATION MUST BE BASED ARE REVIEWED. THE BASIC EQUATION FOR CALCULATING STANDARD DEVIATION IS PRESENTED. EXAMPLES ARE PRESENTED TO SHOW HOW A BITUMINOUS MIXTURE SPECIFICATION WOULD BE ENFORCED.
