HYDRAULIC-FILL ROAD EMBANKMENTS - DESIGN HYDRAULICS STABILITY, AND SURFACE STRENGTH WITH SPECIAL REGARD TO GRANULATION /IN GERMAN/
DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE EAST BREMEN MOTORWAY, A HYDRAULIC METHOD OF CONSTRUCTING A ROAD EMBANKMENT WAS USED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN GERMANY. OBSERVATIONS MEASUREMENTS AND TESTS ARE DISCUSSED. IT WAS SEEN THAT THE SEGREGATION OF THE UNIFORM SANDS IS NEGLIGIBLE, AND CAN BE CONTROLLED IF SUITABLE MEASURES ARE TAKEN. A SMALL PROPORTION OF SILT IN THE MATERIAL CAN EVEN INCREASE THE BEARING CAPACITY OF THE SAND, AND THIS EFFECT IS NOT LOST DURING THE HYDRAULIC PROCESS.
