Review of factors affecting susceptibility to brittle fracture, and possibility of lowering cold brittleness threshold by heat treatment of rolled product, and that of reducing level of harmful impurities in steel; reference to official new recommendations for steel types suitable for at low temperatures; problems requiring further thorough research are noted.
