INSTRUMENTATION AND TESTING OF CONCRETE BRIDGES REINFORCED WITH HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL
FIELD MEASUREMENTS OF TWO EXPERIMENTAL BRIDGES CONSTRUCTED WITH HIGH-STRENGTH REINFORCING ARE BEING MADE. ONE IS A THREE SIMPLE-GIRDER SPAN STRUCTURE, THE OTHER IS A FOUR SPAN CONTINUOUS STRUCTURE. THE MEASUREMENTS ARE NOW RESTRICTED TO DEAD-LOAD DEFLECTIONS AND DETECTION OF CRACKS IN THE DECK OF THE BRIDGES. THE YU AND WINTER DESIGN METHOD OF PREDICTING FOR SIMPLE SPAN STRUCTURES. A MORE SOPHISTICATED METHOD IS APPARENTLY NECESSARY FOR CONTINUOUS STRUCTURES. LONG TERM AFFECTS OF DRYING SHRINKAGE ARE A MAJOR DESIGN CONSIDERATION FOR THE LATTER BRIDGES. /BPR/
