CURING CONCRETE PAVEMENTS
A JOINT REPORT OF THE COMITTEES ON DESIGN AND MATERIALS IS PRESENTED. BECAUSE OF THE EASE OF APPLICATION AND LACK OF NECESSITY OF SUBSEQUENT ATTENTION, SEVERAL RELATIVELY NEW CURING METHODS ARE ATTRACTIVE FROM THE STANDPOINT OF ECONOMY. THE NEW METHODS TAKE ACCOUNT OF THE NECESSITY FOR RETAINING THE MIXING WATER IN THREE WAYS; (1) BY A SURFACE SEAL; (2) BY A SURFACE APPLICATION OF A HYGROSCOPIC SALT; (3) BY THE ADMIXTURE OF A HYGROSCOPIC SALT. ATTENTION IS CALLED TO THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A WET BURLAP COVERING DURING THE EARLY CURING PERIOD. A DIGEST OF PUBLISHED RESEARCH DATA IS INCLUDED.
