ON USE OF DILATION FACTOR AND DEGREE OF SATURATION IN TESTING CONCRETE FOR FROST RESISTANCE
THE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF TESTING CONCRETE FOR FROST RESISTANCE ARE DISCUSSED, AND SOME RESULTS OF LABORATORY INVESTIGATTIONS ARE PERSENTED. BY MEANS OF A COOLING CALORIMETER THE FREEZABLE WATER IN CONCRETE CAN BE MEASURED, AS EXPLAINED IN THE ARTICLE, AND THE EFFECTIVE DEGREE OF SATURATION DETERMINED. THERE SEEMS TO BE A GOOD CORRELATION BETWEEN THE FINAL DILATION OF CONCRETE SPECIMENS AT THE END OF A SINGLE FREEZING CYCLE AND THE EFFECTIVE DEGREE OF SATURATION. BOTH OF THEM CAN BE USED FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE FROST RESISTANCE OF CONCRETE. THE ONE-CYCLE FREEZING TEST, BOTH FOR STUDYING THE DILATION OF CONCRETE DURING FREEZING AND FOR MEASURING THE FREEZABLE WATER CONTENT, TOGETHER WITH THE PORE VOLUME DETERMINATION, PROVIDE USEFUL AND VERY PROMISING MEANS OF STUDYING THE PROBLEMS PERTAINING TO THE DURABILITY OF CONCRETE. /AUTHOR/
