ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES
THREE CATEGORIES OF GENERAL TESTING THAT CAN BE APPLIED TO THE CORE ARE PRESENTED: MICROSCOPICAL, CHEMICAL, AND SELECTIVE-AREA CHEMICAL AND MICROSCOPICAL TESTS. THE FOLLOWING DATA MAY BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE USE OF THESE TECHNIQUES: DATA RELATED TO THE CEMENT; TO THE PASTE; TO THE AGGREGATE; TO THE AIR-VOID SYSTEM; TO EMBEDDED METALS; TO PROPORTIONING, MIXING, PLACING, CONSOLIDATION, FINISHING AND CURING; TO THE ALTERATION OF COMPONETS; TO CRACKING; AND TO THE EFFECTS OF ENVIRONMENT ON CONCRETE. THESE DATA, WHEN EVALUATED IN THE LIGHT OF THE SAMPLING METHOD AND WHEN COMBINED WITH THE INFORMATION THAT RECORDS, FIELD SURVEYS, AND PHYSICAL TESTS REVEAL, CAN PROVIDE CONNECTING LINKS BETWEEN PERFORMANCE AND RESPONSIBLE AGENTS.
