APPARATUS FOR MEASURING CREEP OF CONCRETE AT HIGH TEMPERATURES
A COMPRESSION TEST DEVICE FOR CONDUCTING CREEP TESTS ON 2 X 4-IN. CONCRETE CYLINDERS AT TEMPERATURES AS HIGH AS 1600 F IS DESCRIBED. AUXILIARY CONTROL EQUIPMENT AND INSTRUMENTATION ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. DATA FROM A PRELIMINARY PROGRAM OF CREEP AND RELAXATION TESTS AT TEMPERATURES UP TO 1200 F ARE GIVEN. PRELIMINARY DATA INDICATE THAT CREEP AND RELAXATION OF CONCRETE AT HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE MANY TIMES AS GREAT AS AT NORMAL TEMPERATURES. FOR EXAMPLE, CREEP AT 600 AND 1200 F AT 5 HOURS WERE 6.4 AND 32.6 TIMES AS GREAT AS THE CREEP AT 5 HOURS AT 75 F. SIMILARLY, THE STRESS RELAXATION AT 600 AND 1200 F IN 5 HOURS WERE 32 AND 74% OF THE INITIAL STRESS, WHILE AT ROOM TEMPERATURE THE STRESS RELAXATION IN THIS PERIOD OF TIME WAS ONLY ABOUT 2%. /PCA/
