SURFACE TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS WITH FELTED ASBESTOS PADS

COMPARATIVE DATA ARE PRESENTED FROM FIRE TESTS OF CONCRETE SLABS IN WHICH UNEXPOSED SURFACE TEMPERATURES WERE MEASURED WITH CHROMELALUMEL THERMOCOUPLES COVERED BY TWO TYPES OF FELTED ASBESTOS PADS. IN ALL TESTS THE PADS WERE USED SIDE BY SIDE. HENCE, ALL RESULTS ARE OF A COMPARATIVE NATURE. MOST OF THE DATA ARE FROM TESTS MADE ON 3 X 3-FT CONCRETE SLAB SPECIMENS, 6 IN. THICK, WHICH WERE HEATED ON A SMALL FURNACE FIRED IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE ASTM TIME-TEMPERATURE SPECIFICATION. THE REMAINDER OF THE RESULTS WERE OBTAINED FROM A FULL-SCALE FLOOR ASSEMBLY TESTS AND FROM TWO 40 X 40-IN. SLABS 2 1/2 AND 5 IN. THICK. THE EFFECT OF MOISTURE, SINGLE AND MULTIPLE REUSE OF PADS, TYPE OF SURFACE, AND RATE OF HEATING ARE DISCUSSED. /PCA/
