LONG-TIME STUDY OF CEMENT PERFORMANCE IN CONCRETE - CHAPTER 6 THE HEATS OF HYDRATION OF THE CEMENTS
THE HEAT OF HYDRATION OF PORTLAND CEMENT INCREASES CONTINUOUSLY FOR AT LEAST 6 1/2 YEARS. THE COMPOSITION OF THE CEMENT AFFECTS THE HEAT OF HYDRATION AT ALL AGES. THE HEATS OF HYDRATION OF TYPES II, IV, AND V CEMENTS WERE CONSISTENTLY BELOW THOSE OF THE TYPES I AND III CEMENTS AT ALL AGES UP TO 6 1/2 YEARS. AN AIR-ENTRAINING AGENT HAD NO SIGNIFICANT EFFECT ON THE HEAT OF HYDRATION. TEMPERATURE OF CURING APPRECIABLY AFFECTS THE RATE OF HEAT LIBERATION AT EARLY AGES. HOWEVER, THIS EFFECT DOES NOT PERSIST. THE HEAT OF HYDRATION OF CEMENTS AT AGES BEYOND 28 DAYS CANNOT BE ESTIMATED FROM STRENGTH DATA AS OTHER FACTORS ARE INVOLVED IN THE RELATIONSHIP. /PCA/
