THE EFFECT OF CHANGE IN MOISTURE-CONTENT ON THE CREEP OF CONCRETE UNDER A SUSTAINED LOAD
THE AMOUNT AND RATE OF CREEP IN CONCRETE UNDER LOAD HAS BEEN FOUND TO DEPEND UPON THE RATE OF DRYING. THIS PAPER SHOWS BY MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS THAT THIS IS A NATURAL CONSEQUENCE OF NON-UNIFORM SHRINKAGE AND A NON-LINEAR STRESS-CREEP RELATIONSHIP. IT FURTHER SHOWS THAT SHRINKAGE CANNOT ACCOUNT FOR ADDITIONAL CREEP UNLESS INELASTIC STRAIN NOT PROPORTIONAL TO STRESS IS PRODUCED. RESULTS FROM EXPERIMENTS DESIGNED TO TEST THE APPLICABILITY OF THE THEORY TO CONCRETE ARE REPORTED. /PCA/
