CREEP OF PRESHRUNK CONCRETE
RESULTS OF STUDIES PERFORMED ON FIFTY, 1100 DAY OLD, PLAIN CONCRETE PRISMS ARE PRESENTED. THESE PRISMS WERE USED AS UNLOADED COMPANION SPECIMENS TO DETERMINE THE SHRINKAGE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CONCRETE USED IN ANOTHER STUDY. SINCE THESE SHRINKAGE SPECIMENS EXHIBITED A ZERO RATE OF SHRINKAGE AT 1100 DAYS AND WERE ESSENTIALLY PRESHRUNK, THEY SHOULD ON LOADING EXHIBIT ONLY THE BASIC CREEP. OBSERVED CREEP STRAINS OBTAINED BY LOADING THESE PRESHRUNK SPECIMENS WERE MUCH LESS THAN THOSE OBSERVED BY KESLER AND ALI. AN EXPLANATION FOR THESE OBSERVED DIFFERENCES IS OFFERED. (ACIJP)
