EXTENDING THE INTERPRETATION OF CONCRETE STRENGTH DATA
THE METHOD USED AT PRESENT FOR INTERPRETING CONCRETE STRENGTH DATA (ACI 318-63, SECTION 504) IS BRIEFLY EXAMINED. ATTENTION IS RESTRICTED WHERE STRENGTH IS A BASIS FOR ACCEPTANCE, AND WHERE MIX PROPORTIONING, QUALITY CONTROL, JOB INSPECTION, ETC., ARE CONSISTENT WITH ACCEPTED GOOD PRACTICE. THE PRESENT METHOD FOCUSES ON THE PROPORTION OF UNDERSTRENGTH TEST OUTCOMES. A GENERALIZATION OF THIS METHOD, USING THE SAME UNDERLYING ASSUMPTIONS, YIELDS A PROBABILITY FUNCTION ON THE PROPORTION OF UNDERSTRENGTH CONCRETE IN THE WORK, WHICH IS THE VARIABLE OF REAL INTEREST. THIS PROBABILITY FUNCTION PROVIDES A BASIS FOR RATIONAL DECISIONS REGARDING ACCEPTANCE OF THE WORK. /AUTHOR/
