TRIAXIAL BEHAVIOR OF CONCRETE
MANY INVESTIGATORS HAVE HYPOTHESIZED THAT CONCRETE COULD WITHSTAND VERY HIGH STRAINS, AND THUS STRESSES, IF IT WAS IN A STATE OF TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION. A SOIL MECHANICS THEORY IS USED TO PREDICT THE BEHAVIOR OF CONCRETE UNDER CONDITIONS OF TRIAXIAL STRESS. THE THEORY RELATES THE STRESS IN THE CONCRETE TO THE INSTANTANEOUS POISSON'S RATIO. AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION WAS CARRIED OUT AND JUSTIFIED THE USE OF THE THEORY. /AUTHOR/
