STUDY OF COMPOSITE BRIDGE STRINGERS/BEHAVIOR OF STUD SHEAR CONNECTORS IN LIGHTWEIGHT AND NORMAL-WEIGHT CONCRETE
THE FABRICATION AND TESTING OF TWENTY-FIVE PUSHOUTS ALONG WITH THE NECESSARY COMPANION SPECIMENS TO GIVE PROPERTIES OF THE MATERIALS ARE PRESENTED IN THIS REPORT. THE RESULTS FROM THESE TWENTY-FIVE PUSHOUTS AND THIRTY-TWO ADDITIONAL PUSHOUTS CAST PREVIOUSLY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI WERE ANALYZED TO DEVELOP A COMPLETELY GENERAL EXPRESSION FOR THE LOAD-SLIP CHARACTERISTICS OF A STUD SHEAR CONNECTOR. THE VARIABLES STUDIED WERE DIAMETER AND LENGTH OF STUD, TYPE AND STRENGTH OF CONCRETE, AND GEOMETRY OF THE SLAB. EQUATIONS WERE DEVELOPED FOR THE CAPACITY WHEN THE STUD SHEARED AND WHEN THE CONCRETE CRACKED. THE EQUATIONS WERE GRAPHICALLY PRESENTED IN THE FORM OF A DESIGN CHART.
