THE RAPID ANALYSIS OF FRESH CONCRETE-PART 2
AN INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED TO CHECK THE ACCURACY AND RELIABILITY OF THE APPARATUS DEVELOPED FOR RAPID ANALYSIS OF FRESH CONCRETE. TEST MIXES OF FRESH CONCRETE OF KNOWN COMPOSITION WERE ANALYZED. THESE WERE PREPARED USING (1) THE SAME AGGREGATE AS WAS USED TO PREPARE THE CONCRETE, BUT DRIED BEFORE USE, (2) CEMENT OF THE SAME BRAND AS THAT USED BY THE CONTRACTOR, AND (3) TAP WATER. THE WHOLE OF EACH TEST SAMPLE WAS WASHED INTO THE EQUIPMENT AFTER MIXING AND WEIGHING, SO THAT THE RECOVERIES OBTAINED REFLECTED THE EFFICIENCY OF THE APPARATUS AND OPERATOR, AND WERE NOT AFFECTED BY ERRORS OF MIXING AND SAMPLING. INFORMATION WAS OBTAINED ON VARIATIONS WITHIN SAMPLE, VARIATIONS WITHIN BATCH, AND VARIATIONS BETWEEN BATCHES. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THIS RAPID METHOD OF ANALYSIS PERMITS POSITIVE QUALITY CONTROL FOR A GIVEN SITE.
