EFFECT OF AGGREGATES ON CYLINDER-SPLITTING STRENGTH OF CONCRETE
THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE CYLINDER-SPLITTING TEST PROVIDE A GUIDE TO THE TENSILE PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE. AN INVESTIGATION OF THE RELATION BETWEEN THE CYLINDER-SPLITTING STRENGTH AND THE CUBE-CRUSHING STRENGTH OF VARIOUS CONCRETE MIXES AT DIFFERENT AGES IS REPORTED IN THIS ARTICLE. THE VARIABLES WHICH WERE EXAMINED, WHICH MAINLY CONCERNED THE USE OF AGGREGATES, WERE THE AGGREGATE: CEMENT AND WATER: CEMENT RATIOS, THE TYPE, CONTENT AND GRADING OF THE FINE AGGREGATE, AND THE TYPE AND ANGULARITY OF THE COARSE AGGREGATE. THE ONLY FACTOR FOUND TO HAVE A PREDOMINANT EFFECT WAS THE TYPE OF COARSE AGGREGATE EMPLOYED. /RRL(A)/
