FAILURE CRITERIA FOR CONCRETE IN COMPRESSION
THIS PAPER DESCRIBES THE FAILURE SURFACE IN THREE- DIMENSIONAL STRESS SPACE OF CONCRETE SUBJECTED TO MULTI- AXIAL COMPRESSION WITH MAXIMUM STRESSES UP TO EIGHT TIMES THE UNIAXIAL COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH. IT IS SHOWN THAT, IF THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS PRESENTED BY SEVERAL AUTHORS ARE CORRECT, THE FAILURE SURFACE FOR CONCRETE CANNOT BE ROTATIONALLY AXI-SYMMETRIC. THE SUGGESTED SHAPE OF FAILURE ENVELOPE IS APPROXIMATED TO A FORM WHICH CAN BE REPRESENTED BY SIMPLE EQUATIONS, AND A SAFETY FACTOR IS DEFINED WHICH ENABLES DESIGN EQUATIONS TO BE PRESENTED. /RRL/A/
