THE ACCURACY OF THE DETERMINATION OF THE AIR CONTENT OF FRESH CONCRETE
WHEN USING AIR ENTRAINING AGENTS, AND AGENTS FOR BOTH WORKABILITY AND AIR ENTRAINMENT, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE ACTUAL AIR CONTENT OF FRESH CONCRETE SHOULD BE AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THAT SPECIFIED TO OBTAIN MAXIMUM FROST RESISTANCE. IF THE ACTUAL AIR CONTENT OF THE FRESH CONCRETE IS LOWER THAN THAT SPECIFIED, THE POTENTIAL PROTECTION AGAINST FROST DAMAGE CANNOT BECOME FULLY EFFECTIVE. ON THE OTHER HAND IF THE ACTUAL AIR CONTENT OF THE FRESH CONCRETE IS HIGHER THAN THAT SPECIFIED, CERTAIN PROPERTIES OF THE CONCRETE, SUCH AS ITS MECHANICAL STRENGTH, WILL BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED. IT WAS SHOWN WITH THE AID OF EXPERIMENTS WITH DIFFERENT CONCRETE MIXES AND WITH IDEALIZED MIXES CONSISTING OF GLASS PELLETS AND WATER THAT THE PRESSURE METHOD GIVES CORRECT RESULTS EVEN WITH STIFF MIXES. THE PRESSURE METHOD IS NOT ONLY THE SIMPLEST BUT ALSO THE MORE ACCURATE METHOD WHEN COMPARED WITH TWO OTHER METHODS MENTIONED. /CRIC/FESR/ RRL/AUTHOR/
