THE REPORT DEVELOPS AN ANALYTICAL TREATMENT HERETOFORE LACKING IN TECHNICAL LITERATURE' COMPLETE ANALYTICAL FORMULATIONS FOR THE SOLUTION OF 3-UNEQUAL-LEGGED, 2-TIER, HIGHWAY-BRIDGE PIER BENTS WITH SEGMENTS OF COLUMNS AND BOTH TOP GIRDER AND INTERMEDIATE HORIZONTAL MEMBERS OF VARYING MOMENT OF INERTIA, UNDER ALL APPLICABLE AASHO LOADINGS. WORKING SLOPE-DEFLECTION EQUATIONS ARE DERIVED BY MATRIX ENERGY METHODS FOR ANY MEMBER OF VARIABLE I IN A RIGID FRAME OF ANY CONFIGURATION. EXPRESSIONS FOR FIXED-END MOMENTS AND FRAME CONSTANTS ARE DETERMINED FOR MEMBERS WITH /A/ ASSYMMETRICAL GIRDER SOFFIT, /B/ SYMMETRICAL GIRDER SOFFIT, AND /C/ SYMMETRICAL PARABOLIC SOFFIT. EXPRESSIONS ARE SET UP FOR ALL THE END-MOMENTS CORRESPONDING TO A LABELED DIAGRAM OF THE GENERAL CONFIGURATION OF THE BENT.
