NEW RESULTS AND RECENT STUDIES OF CONCRETE CREEP /IN FRENCH/

EXPERIMENTAL DATA CONCERNING THE THEORY OF CREEP IS PRESENTED. (1) CREEP CONTINUES TO INCREASE SLIGHTLY FOR 5 TO 10 YEARS IN A DRY ATMOSPHERE. (2) THE AGE OF LOADING HAS A VERY DISTINCT INFLUENCE ON LATER CREEP IN DRY ATMOSPHERES. CREEP AT EIGHT YEARS DIMINISHES IN ACCORDANCE WITH AN APPROXIMATE LAW IN A-B LOG T. IN WATER THE EFFECT OF THE AGE OF LOADING IS MUCH LESS MARKED. (3) THE ABSOLUTE DIMENSION OF THE TEST PIECES IS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR: CREEP DIMINISHES IN EXTENT AND IN ITS RATE WHEN THE DIMENSION INCREASES. (4) THE DEFORMATION OF CREEP UNDER LOAD IS NOT ACCOMPANIED BY A MEASURABLE LOSS OF WATER GREATER THAN THAT WHICH ACCOMPANIES SHRINKAGE WITHOUT LOAD. (5) THE VARIATION IN MOISTURE OF THE CURING MEDIUM BETWEEN TWO VALUES A AND B (100% AND 50% R.H.) GIVES AN AVERAGE CREEP SLIGHTLY INFERIOR TO THE AVERAGE CREEP UNDER HYGROMETRIES A AND B. (6) IT IS PROBABLE (BUT NOT PROVED) THE DEFORMATIONS OF CREEP IN COMPRESSION RESPOND TO THE PRINCIPLE OF SUPERPOSITION OF FORCES, WHEN THE LATTER ARE INFERIOR TO ONE-THIRD OF THE FAILURE LOAD. (7) IF CEMENT IS BATCHED WITHIN THE LIMITS OF FROM 250 TO 450 CUBIC KG/M, THE AMOUNT OF CREEP DIMINISHES AS THIS BATCHING INCREASES. /LCPC(A)/RRL/
